Dmitri Plotkin

Dmitry Plotkin was born In Nikopol, Ukraine. Studied in Ivanovsk Art College and worked on MosFilm Studio as a set designer. According to the artist, all of his creativity is devoted to man, his relationship to the surrounding world, to other people, his memories and dreams. Dmitry is interested in man’s internal world, the process of building the character, developing the personality. It is important for the artists to understand what role love plays in man’s life. In his opinion, relationship between man and art is the most important issue in contemporary culture. Art has the biggest impact on man’s spirit if it satisfies the main criteria of culture- positive influence on soul and mind. Along with the painting Dmitry is interested in the synthesis of various art forms, such as photography, video, graphics and installations that could be used in a single conceptual project. Some of his projects are “From Civilization to Culture, from Culture to Civilization”, “Remembering the Birth”, “Temple of Life” and “ Temple of Death”. In 2012 Plotkin started working on a new project “From Dao to Dao”. In this project, artist is attempting to examine fundamental problems of existing world by calling upon the great concept of Dao. Dao for Plotkin is an absolute matter, existing in a perfect harmony. Dao’s creative energy gives a birth to a chaos, from which the world is gradually formed. That is how from one painting to another we can see different stages of existence of our world until inevitable death and a new kingdom of Dao. Dao is eternal while human world is cyclical. The development of this world creates what is called Ying -Yang, the struggle of the opposites that sets the wheel of history in motion. That is how in this world seemingly self-negating things such as love and death exist. According to the artist development and progress of humanity not only brings the positive benefits of civilization – culture being the most important one, but also number of problems: disconnect between people and nature and each other, detachment from the roots and the Dao.
